Looks like Chrysler is getting into the electric vehicle(EV) biz in for 2010. The Dodge EV is one of 3(sports car, jeep, and van) vehicles to be released by Chrysler in 2010 as 2011 models that will either be gas/electric hybrids or all electric. I hope I never have to drive a minivan and don’t feel comfortable driving SUVs, so this post will concentrate on the sports car.
WOOHOOO now you can get one of these for driving to and from work instead of trudging to work on a bike in all types of weather with the knowledge that you’re not polluting the earth nearly as much as 99.9% as everyone else on the road. No environmental guilt either to drive to and from group rides while not emitting any carbon compounds! You’ll be the ultimate green machine. If anyone is as much of a car-nut as I am, you might find this car looks familiar. No.. it’s not a photoshop of a Lotus Europa. It actually is based heavily on that car. The EV will be al electric putting out 200kW or 268 equivalent horsepower electric motor mated to an “advanced lithium-ion battery pack and an integrated power control module”. Peak torque is 480 lb-ft, which helps propel the lightweight Europ… Dodge EV to 60 mph in less than five seconds and a 120 mph top speed. Its range is pegged at between 150 to 200 miles with recharge times of 8 hours for 110-volt outlets and four hours using a 220-volt. If you really wanted to get creative, you could hook your bike up to it to charge on the trainer for 100% emission free power, of course the stench from the amount of sweat you’ll produce might be enough to burn a hole in the ozone layer on its own.
I guess the success(if you get past the production delays) of the Tesla Roadster led Chrysler to partner with Lotus to get this thing into production ASAP to challenge the Chevy Volt for EV niche dominance and to help get Chrysler back into the black.

So, would you rather have an all electric Europa Doge EV or a Chevy Volt? I didn’t see any pricing details, but it will hopefully be comparable the Chevy Volt. Chalk me up on the Dodge EV side of this little duel.
