Alberto Contador will not be defending his 2008 win in the Giro D’Italia for 2009.
Said the Spanish phenom:“I will not race the Giro. Last year I raced, but this year it’s taking me longer to recover,” Contador told reporters this weekend during a visit to a hospital in Madrid. “I will race the Tour and later I will decide if I will race the Vuelta, but the primary objective that I am going to sacrifice 100 percent for is the Tour.”
I wonder if this decision had a hint of team orders as this will avoid any type of conflict with Lance Armstrong’s run at the Giro. Does this mean that Lance will not be in the Tour deFrance in 2009 as has been reported as a possiblity recently?
