Panasonic first to debut micro 4/3 camera

Yes, I know this is not about cycling, but I’m a photo buff too.
Panasonic just released the specs on its new Micro 4/3(four thirds.. for the non photo freaks) called the G1. The basic premise of this new camera is that you can fit an SLR sized image sensor inside the body of a consumer digicam to obtain the quality of an SLR without the size of an SLR. You can change the lenses as with an SLR. Dpreview has a good preview they got their hands on. I think the concept is pretty cool, but the first camera isn’t much different in size to justify the price. You can already get a Canon Rebel for the same price as this or less. The G1 is only 25% smaller than an SLR. It has an excellent feature set and an adapter that you can use to connect lenses currently on the market for SLRs. It seems like a good entry to create this new niche for the early adopters; however, I don’t really seeing this niche taking off anytime soon. Maybe this will be this year’s Thanksgiving day “door buster” product.

Anyone taking the plunge on this one?
